Polar Vortex.

So.  You guys.  Did you see the sky today?  Talk about cold.
Obligatory photos of the weather channel app, iphone weather, and car dash thermometer.
It's crazy cold.  Insane cold.  Lake Erie doing weird things cold.  Luckily I have a dad who is committed to this lake photography thing and he took these amazing pictures of what's going on:

Lake Erie in the Arctic Vortex
That would be Lake Erie steaming.  STEAMING.  Because the air temp (-3 in these photos taken yesterday) is less than the temperature of the water.  I've never seen the lake do that before.  INSANITY:

And even more crazy to compare with these pictures taken today.  The lake is now cold enough that it's not steaming anymore.  Here's a video by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration showing how quickly the lake froze over.  Insane.

Insanity is a good way to put it.  I'm SO not cut out for this trapped at  home all the time with the kids thing.  Luckily temps are supposed to soar into the teens tomorrow and school/regular life should resume.  Another couple of days of this and I'd be staging the Hunger Games with my children:

Unfortunately for this district the tributes are old friends.
The kids aren't cut out for this stuck at home thing either.  It's been Christmas break, followed by being down with the flu, followed by me leaving for a couple days, followed by being trapped indoors due to the vortex.  They have gone FERAL.

New Years Day.  The last time they really played outside.
We've done every puzzle.  More than once.  Painted. Played games (or tried to anyways).  And even busted out my nemesis, playdough:

THE COLORS ARE MIXING AND GETTING EVERYWHERE AND AAAAAAAH OCD.
I'm OVER IT.  I've given up on trying to tame them for today.  Instead I built them a kick-ass blanket fort, aimed the space heater into it, and turned on a movie.
Pictured:  something that will keep them entertained for all of 30 minutes.
Fingers crossed the Longest Christmas Break in the History of the World ends tomorrow.  Or be ready to start the betting on your favorite tribute.

Happy Hunger Games.  And may the Odds be Ever in Your Favor.
Don't discount the littlest one, or the furry one.  In the time it took me to write this post they realized the warmth of the shelter and claimed both the blanket fort and the snacks from the career tributes.

STEALTHY.
Seriously I need to get these kids out of the house tomorrow.

Ahhhh cabin fever. At least with summer break you can toss them outside most of the time. My family had an econoline van in the (ahem) '60's. My mom sent us out to play in that one summer day when she was tired of us in the house and it was raining out. She said from the kitchen window she could see the van bouncing (there were 4 of us). lol The blanket fort was brilliant idea.

Ha! Yeah the summer is SO much easier with the cabin fever thing - just from the standpoint of not having to put coats, hats, mittens, boots, more mittens, on everyone!

OOOOOH great idea!!! I have to look into that. I could just make a ton of it and then when the colors mix too much throw it away and not worry about it. Thanks for the idea!!

So hoping you are hopping out the door today! There's got to be somewhere you can go in this balmy 15 degrees! In the meantime, seems like you're holding up better than you think you are. Great job on the fort!

I did! School started for the girl and I took the boys to the library. And as usual your comments are very reassuring. Hoping to come to knitting this week!

Those lake photos look like the coast of Maine! Crazy. We got to about -25 with the windchill at our worst. Luckily that's over with. My son only had a delay one day for school, so we weren't too affected. We're used to it, I suppose. Happy Saturday!
Wow, those Lake Erie posts are beautiful. I grew up in Cleveland and never appreciated the lake. Now I live in Chicago, so Lake Michigan had similar stuff happening to it... but I hate the cold so I did not go out and take gorgeous photos.

Have a good weekend!

I'm here from the SITS tribe! This is nuts! I hope it has warmed up and you guys have been able to get out. I would be going crazy, too.

A huge variety of the images are uploaded on your website and I really loved that one which contains cotton like snow. But I would like to suggest you to use the http://www.ninjaessays.org/research-paper.html to get some brief description along with these images, so that they can convey proper meaning to others.
